Are you ready for the upcoming June, 2016 Primary Election? Here is our Voter Guide for Santa Ana voters:

46th Congressional District

The incumbent, Loretta Sanchez, has decided to vacate her House seat as she tries to move up to the U.S. Senate. There are a lot of candidates vying to replace her. If you like corporate Democrats then Lou Correa should be your pick. We like the more progressive Garden Grove Mayor Bao Nguyen.  We greatly dislike former State Senator turned lobbyist Joe Dunn, who once tried to move the U.S. Federal Court of Appeals out of Santa Ana – to Irvine. If you are a Republican then your best pick is Lynn Schott, an Irvine City Council Member who grew up in Santa Ana (her family still lives here).

U.S. Senate

No Republican has a chance of victory in this race to replace the retiring Senator from San Francisco, Barbara Boxer. While Loretta Sanchez has her bad moments we are endorsing her rather than her main opponent, Kamala Harris, because Harris is yet another Bay Area politician. It is about time that Southern California was represented in the U.S. Senate!

69th Assembly District

The incumbent, Tom Daly, just might be Orange County’s worst corporate Democrat. He is a slave to the Disney Resort and to former Anaheim Mayor Curt Pringle, who is now a lobbyist. We heartily endorse his opponent, Ofelia Velarde-Garcia.

First Supervisorial District:

The incumbent, Andrew Do, used to be the Chief of Staff to the former First District Supervisor, Janet Nguyen. Now she has turned on him and he is facing off against another Little Saigon candidate, Phat Bui. We endorse Santa Ana Council Member Michele Martinez. It is about time that Santa Ana was represented by one of its own!

Democratic Party of Orange County, Central Committee:

There are several candidates running for the DPOC’s Central Committee in the 69th District. We are endorsing:

  • Avelino Valencia III
  • Rickk Montoya
  • Jose F. Moreno

Republican Party of Orange County, Central Committee:

There are several candidates running for the OC GOP’s Central Committee in the 69th District. We are endorsing:

  • Brett Elliot Franklin (former Santa Ana City Council Member)
  • Steven A. Nguyen (the son of OC Clerk-Recorder Hugh Nguyen)
  • Angie R. Cano (past candidate for the SAUSD School Board)
  • Maribel Marroquin
  • Cecilia “Ceci” Iglesias (SAUSD School Board Trustee)

Orange County Board of Education, Area One:

The incumbent, Robert Hammond, is a Tea Party extremist. He has no business representing the people of Santa Ana. We endorse his opponent, Rebecca “Becky” Gomez.

Orange County Superior Court

Office No. 3

There are three candidates running. We are endorsing Wayne Phillips. Click here to see his many community endorsements.

Office No. 40

All you need to know about judicial candidate Larry Yellin is that he works for the OCDA and he was involved in the O.C. snitch scandal. No thanks. We are endorsing his opponent, Thuy D. Pham.

Office No. 48

The incumbent, Judge Scott Steiner, was censured, in 2014, by the California Commission on Judicial Performance for having sex in his chambers with Chapman University law school students; attempting to get one of the women a taxpayer-funded job with his former boss, DA Tony Rackauckas; and failing to recuse himself from a case involving an attorney who was one of his close friends. Steiner is of course married and has young kids. We think he is completely disgusting. We heartily endorse his only opponent, Karen Lee Schatzle. Shame on the unethical Republicans who are backing Steiner!

Office No. 49

All you need to know about judicial candidate Mike Murray is that he works for the OCDA and he was involved in the O.C. snitch scandal. No thanks. We are endorsing his opponent, Thomas E. Martin.

President of the United States

We endorse U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders. We find Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump to be simply unacceptable!

  1. In Seat 3, it should be Andrew Stein. He is the most experienced. He has been involved in the community and done pro bono work for the poor and under privileged. Phillips is not qualified to be a judge. You need to correct this.

    1. Andrew looks like a great candidate as well. But he also appears to have very few endorsements. Winning a judicial campaign is not easy. I think Phillips is better positioned to do so and I like him on the issues.

  2. I completely disagree on your endorsement for Lou Correa. Look at his voting history on Middle class education. Joe Dunn is the only choice for Democratic party.

    1. With all due respect Bao Nguyen is a better progressive than Dunn, who turned into a lobbyist after he termed out.

    2. Jim, Art is right. Joe is a millionare lawyer with little or nothing in common with the VAST majority of the district.

I like Lou, baggage and all but wonder if Schott by be a refreshing change/voice.

      Dunn is a non starter.

      1. So I should vote for Loretta just because I’ve heard of her? That’s an awful way to vote.

Did you ever consider that more people would know about Stokes if sites like this would write about him instead of just endorsing the person we’ve “heard of”?

I want a NEW SANTA ANA. Loretta Sanchez will be more of the SAME.

        1. It sucks but I feel it is important for Southern California to be represented in the US Senate. Loretta is a ding dong but she’s our ding dong.

      2. I think it’s important for Southern California to be represented in the US Senate as well. That’s why I would encourage all of your readers to take a look at LOS ANGELES native: Steve Stokes.

Did you even research all the candidates before making this list?
