The California Independent System Operator (CAISO) has issued a CAISO Grid Stage 2 System Emergency effective today, Aug. 18, from 2 p.m. until 11:59 p.m.

Due to the heat event and demand on the system, CAISO advised it may move into a Stage 3 Emergency later today that would result in the immediate implementation of rotating one-hour power outages.

The public is asked to conserve electricity by turning off unused appliances, lights and equipment; avoiding using large appliances such as washers and dryers; and setting air conditioners to 78 degrees or higher.

The peak conservation hours are 6 to 8 p.m.
