Santa Ana, Calif. MOMS, the county’s largest nonprofit dedicated solely to newborn and pregnancy health, will host a breastmilk drive on Friday, August 9 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. during August Breastfeeding Awareness Month. Nursing mothers can bring their frozen breast milk (stored up to six month) to the human milk collection center or be screened to donate in the future.

The breastmilk collection center was established last year in conjunction with the San Jose- based nonprofit Mother’s Milk Bank to increase the region’s supply of donor breast milk for the most fragile and vulnerable infants in NICU care. Human breastmilk is considered by experts to be the optimal nutrition of choice for medically fragile newborns and other babies whose mothers are unable to provide breastmilk. Breastmilk is also prescribed for infants of foster, adoptive or surrogate mothers or whose mothers are undergoing health issues that prevent breastfeeding.

During the breastmilk drive, MOMS will host refreshments, giveaways and drawings for in-home postnatal massage and other prizes. Reservations are encouraged by visiting https://www.momsorangecounty.org/milkbank/

MOMS is located at 1128 West Santa Ana Blvd. in Santa Ana (parking entrance is off Baker St.).  For more information, call MOMS at (714) 352-3406 or Mother’s Milk Bank at (877) 375-6645.

About MOMS

MOMS (formerly MOMS Orange County) formed 30 years ago in response to a crisis in access to prenatal healthcare for low-income, at-risk women. Today, MOMS serves more than 2,500 low-income families annually, directly influencing improvements in birth outcomes, maternal health, and developmental indicators among infants within a highly disadvantaged population.
