Man arrested after firing a gun at a 7-11 store in Westminster

WESTMINSTER, CA. – On September 12, 2024, at approximately 1:30 a.m., police officers responded to the 6500 block of Westminster Boulevard regarding a call of shots fired, according to the Westminster Police Department.

The police officers arrived at the location and located evidence that a shooting had taken place inside a local convenience store.

Fortunately, no victims were shot. The suspect was described by victims and witnesses, who was said to have fled the scene. Utilizing resources, officers were able to identify the suspect, Joshua Cruz, a resident of Westminster.

Officers located the suspect within two hours and took him into custody without incident. Members of the Westminster Major Crimes Unit responded and continued the investigation throughout the day. Additional evidence was located. This appears to be an isolated event with no further threat to the public.

Cruz was booked into Orange County Jail for PC 245(a)(1) – Assault with a deadly weapon. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Detective S.
