Christopher Lee Kearns, a 28-year-old man, was charged on Wednesday with attempting to kill a child with a knife and screwdriver in Santa Ana, according to KNX News.

Kearns is facing felony charges of attempted murder and child abuse and endangerment. He also must contend with sentencing enhancements for inflicting great bodily injury and the personal use of a deadly weapon.

Kearns allegedly attacked the child last Sunday using a knife and a screwdriver, according to the prosecutor.

Kearns had his arraignment on Wednesday, but he did not enter a plea. This has now been rescheduled for March 1, at the Central Justice Center in Santa Ana.

The prosecutor and the SAPD have not yet indicated what Kearns’ motive was or what may have led to the alleged attack.
