The Orange County Chapter of the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) is hosting their September Technical Meeting on September 16, 2015, from 11:30 am to 1 pm, at the local offices of the American Red Cross, located at 600 N. Parkcenter Drive, Room PC 208, in Santa Ana.

The speaker is Patrick Prince, a corporate training and management consultant specializing in workplace violence prevention, conflict resolution, recognition and management of workplace substance abuse, trauma response and other related occupational health and safety issues.

Prince will be talking about “20 Years of Lessons Learned: The Future of Effective Workplace Violence Prevention.”

Event Overview:

Prince will draw on over 20 years experience in providing Workplace Violence Prevention (WPVP) services to lead a discussion of where such programs have come and where they must go as companies of all sizes seek to comply with OSHA mandates and provide workplace safety. The presentation will give participants a clear understanding of how violence occurs, how extraordinary events can be anticipated and identified earlier the cycle and how those events can be prevented. Central to any organizational program is the participation of the safety professional. Having responded on site to several mass casualty workplace events, Mr. Prince has real world experience and practical suggestions that will make this presentation a highlight. More importantly, participants will be able to take lessons learned here back to their workplace for immediate application.

Speaker Info:

Patrick Prince is a corporate training and management consultant specializing in workplace violence prevention, conflict resolution, recognition and management of workplace substance abuse, trauma response and other related occupational health and safety issues. He has served on the Board of Directors for the Association of Threat Assessment Professionals (ATAP), since 2007. Currently he holds the position of Association First Vice-President. Along with serving on the joint ASIS-SHRM American National Standards Task Force to develop standards and guidelines for workplace violence prevention and intervention programs. These guidelines were published in October, 2011. Mr. Prince is an active participant in TARGET- the FBI sponsored initiative to address violence in institutions of higher education. He was invited to assist the bureau as a subject matter expert. He was co-developer of the Los Angeles Department of Water & Power trauma response program. Mr. Prince has also served on the Board of Directors for the Association of Traumatic Stress Specialists. He was a member of the International Association of Traumatic Stress Studies and chaired an international task force on occupational trauma. In addition, Mr. Prince received his master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from the University of California, Los Angeles. His B.A. in Sociology is from the University of Southern California.

Prince has an extensive background in the recognition and management of employee substance abuse.

He is a recognized expert in the articulation and application of “reasonable cause” for workplace drug testing and he has trained over 15,000 supervisors in a wide range of industries to identify and confront the suspected substance-abusing employee. Over 12,000 employees have attended his drug awareness presentations.

Prince is federally certified as a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) Instructor. As a specialist reserve officer with the Los Angeles Police Department, he has served as an instructor with the DRE program since 1987. He also instructs with L.A.P.D.’s Narcotics School and other specialized trainings.

He has been on the faculty of Los Angeles City College for over 25 years where he is an instructor in the Drug and Alcohol Studies program.

Prince has provided training and consultation specific to the Maritime Industry for over 15 years.
