Holiday Harbor Cruise for Wish Kids with Life-Threatening Illnesses

WHAT: This 4th of July holiday, the Orange County Sheriff’s Department will host approximately 220 local Make-A-Wish kids and their families for a special cruise around Newport Harbor. The wish kids, who are battling life-threatening illnesses, will board a triple-decker yacht provided by Electra Cruises and play games, dance, get their faces painted and make patriotic crafts. It is a day for them to forget about their illnesses and just have fun.

The boat will also dock briefly at the American Legion where guests will be greeted by Orange County Sheriff Sandra Hutchens and served a pancake breakfast. “The men and women of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department participate in numerous community-based events each year, including granting individual wishes,” says Sheriff Sandra Hutchens. “It is our distinct pleasure to be able to participate in this event each year with the Make-A-Wish Foundation and bring a few hours of joy and respite to the children and their families.”

The harbor cruise and breakfast are sponsored by the Harbor Patrol Bureau of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, Electra Cruises, and the American Legion Post 291.
