COSTA MESA, Calif. (November 24, 2020) – The Costa Mesa Police Department (CMPD) is seeking to identify potential additional victims of a man arrested for sexually assaulting two underage girls yesterday.

In September 2020, CMPD was contacted by the mother of two girls, 14-year-old Jane Doe and 12-year-old Jane Doe, after learning that Mark Allen Korando, Sr., 69, Costa Mesa, had inappropriately touched the girls. The girls were later interviewed with the assistance of the Child Abuse Services Team (CAST). CMPD detectives learned that Korando sexually assaulted both victims starting approximately two years ago.

Yesterday, on Nov. 23, 2020, CMPD detectives contacted Korando at his home. He was interviewed and was subsequently arrested and booked at the CMPD jail on suspicion of digital penetration of a victim under 10, lewd acts on a child, and continuous sexual abuse of a child under 14. He is currently in custody at the Orange County Jail on $1 million bail.

During the course of the investigation, CMPD detectives also learned Korando is a member at a local church at the 1700 block of Baker Boulevard, where he would chaperone groups of girls on trips out of state to provide aid and support for communities in need. Detectives are seeking the public’s assistance is identifying potential additional victims Korando might have had access to through his involvement with the local church and community.
