SANTA ANA, CA –In honor of Asian Pacific Islander Heritage Month, State Senator Lou Correa and the Orange County Asian and Pacific Islander Community Alliance (OCAPICA) will hold a special evening of cultural celebration on Thursday, June 6th from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at the Delhi Center (505 E Central Avenue, Santa Ana 92707). The program will include legislative and community updates, various cultural performances from local performing artists, and an awards ceremony for local community leaders and organizations.
Congress first passed a joint Congressional Resolution in 1978 to commemorate Asian American Heritage Week during the first week in May to celebrate their rich history and to highlight the significant contributions of these communities in the United States. This later expanded to a whole month long celebration in 1990.
Senator Correa and OCAPICA will be honoring individuals and organizations with outstanding leadership and contributions to the API community. They were selected from throughout Orange County and represent a diverse group of Asian Pacific Islander American ethnic backgrounds – Vietnamese, Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Filipino, and Pacific Islander.
“These are leaders and organization that participate and make significant contributions in our community. They embody the diversity and common values of service for the greater good. It will be my pleasure to join OCAPICA to honor them at this year’s Asian Pacific Islander Heritage Month Celebration,” said Senator Lou Correa.
Entertainment will consist of cultural performances celebrating the diversity of the API community. Various ethnic foods will also be provided during the festivities. The event is free and open to the public.
