By now you have read about the ruckus in Santa Ana yesterday when there was a “after a confrontation between a large crowd and police officers Wednesday evening,  in the area of West Camille Street,” according to the O.C. Register.

Shortly after 6 p.m. Wednesday, an Orange County Fire Authority crew responding to a medical call in the 3300 block of West Camille Street requested police assistance, telling dispatchers that two men were harassing them while they were trying to attend to a patient, Cmdr. Steve Colon said. As a result, three men and a juvenile were arrested, said Santa Ana police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna.

But hold the presses.  The community is fighting back.  Apparently the 17 year old who was arrested, Sergio Galan, is a 4.0 student who speaks English quite well.  But the cops who beat him up and arrested him did not know that as they allegedly made anti-Mexican statements.

Galan says he was just a bystander.  And then all hell broke loose and he got beat up and dragged off to jail.

Please don’t expect the Santa Ana City Council to do anything about this.  They already sold out to the police union and are preparing to give them a big raise.

  1. “Please don’t expect the Santa Ana City Council to do anything about this. They already sold out to the police union and are preparing to give them a big raise”

Could it be that we will see more and more of these problems before the Police Union says, “Santa Ana is out of control…we need more money to fight crime…Pass a Public Safety Tax or else all Hell will break loose” I think this is what they call in the Union business a bargaining chip.

Nice reporting Art. Who else is going to talk about this? Where is Councilwoman Martinez who was so famous for her candlelight “marches” with “the community” after gang shootings? Too busy hanging out in the Artists village I guess.

  2. As a guy who has lived in Santa Ana a while now I do have a tip for the guy in the video though …when the police say “Get down on you knees” don’t ask why..just do it. Those baton blows don’t tickle.

  3. I voted for Latino candidates during the last few elections because I expect a better understanding of our community but then something like this happens and it makes me angry. Where are our City Council leaders? Why aren’t they out making a statement? The silence is deafening.
Ms. Martinez used to the first to come to our side but now she is just like the rest that came before her. How very, very, sad.

  4. That’s a problem area of the city, lots of calls for service.

What is the deal with the video? Doesn’t the people who live there speak English?

  5. What problem is the SAPD going to have?

    From the paper

As a result, three men and a juvenile were arrested, said Santa Ana police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna.

Santiago Johnny Aviles, 22, of Santa Ana, was arrested on suspicion of interfering with fire personnel at an emergency scene, disobeying a gang-injunction court order, participating in a street gang, and tampering and malicious mischief to a fire department vehicle.

Sergio Galan, 21, of Santa Ana, was arrested on suspicion of assaulting a police officer and of interfering, obstructing, and resisting with medical staff and police officers.

Erik David Valladares, 19, of Santa Ana, was arrested on suspicion of assaulting a police officer and delaying and obstructing a police officer and emergency personnel.

A 17-year-old was arrested on suspicion of obstructing and interfering with police officers and medical staff.

  6. 3:30p the SAPD has cut access to the OCHSA.

Can’t tell what is going on, just police cars flashing lights and blocking streets

  7. El SOL and the other grade school next to OCHSA have been evacuated from UCI to Washington and Broadway to Main. Even the huge traffic jam at 5pm is gone cause traffic is being deverted away

  8. Been told that there was a shooting, and my clock I did not turn back, so the 5pm traffic jam has not yet happened. 4:20pm

  9. “Can’t really blame the council ..blame who leads them….”

Do you mean the Police Union, the Police Management Union or the SEIU?

  10. Motherf*ckers. They wonder why they hate them while they antagonize a whole generation of young brown people. To hell with them.
