Westminster police officers responded to a motel located at the 6600 block of Westminster Boulevard on December 8, 2023, at about 4:22 PM, regarding a report of a male subject sitting on top of a car (roof) in his underwear.

The reporting party told police dispatchers the male subject was acting erratically and the caller was concerned for his welfare.

Upon arrival, officers saw the subject appeared to be holding a rifle in his hands and was yelling the “devil was trying to kill him.”

The police officers requested guests in surrounding rooms remain in their rooms and away from windows and doors.

The police officers made contact with the subject, who pointed the rifle at them. At this point, an officer-involved shooting took place.

The subject fell off of his car and began walking toward officers before collapsing.

The officers immediately rendered first aid to the subject.

The Orange County Fire Authority responded and transported the subject to UCI Medical Center in Orange.

The suspect undwent surgery but his current condition is unknown.
