Today, April 2, right before noon, a police officer saw an individual walking by a school campus and contacted him near the 2700 block of Fairview, according to the Costa Mesa Police Department.

During the contact, it was discovered that the man had a loaded handgun in his possession. Due to the proximity of nearby schools, Orange Coast College campus security was notified as was the Newport-Mesa Unified School District.

Jacob Brydenthal, 32, Garden Grove, was promptly arrested for being a felon in possession of a firearm and having a firearm in close proximity to a school.

There is no indication that the arrestee intended any acts of violence on either campus.

Brydenthal can now ponder his mistakes at the Orange County Jail.
