On Wednesday, August 27, 2025, at 12:15 a.m., two graveyard officers with the Huntington Beach Police Department (HBPD), working a two-officer Adam Unit, were on proactive patrol when they attempted to stop a suspicious vehicle in the area of Huntington Street and Portland Circle. A pursuit immediately ensued.
At Adams Avenue and Main Street, the suspect was involved in a solo collision and fled on foot. The suspect was later identified as Anh Tran, 33, of Garden Grove. Officers saw Tran exit his vehicle with a shotgun. As officers chased on foot, the shotgun was discharged. The officers stopped and responding officers set up a containment perimeter.
Air Support Unit HB1 responded and later located Tran hiding in the backyard of a residence in the 1700 block of Shipley Street. With the assistance of HB1’s Tactical Flight Officer, officers coordinated a strategic approach, also using our armored vehicle for protection. Tran was given commands and later taken into custody without incident. A shotgun was located in the area and no officers or citizens were injured.
HBPD Major Crimes Unit detectives responded and assumed the investigation. Tran was booked at the HBPD Jail on the listed charges:
