The family of Steve Salgado, an 18-year old young man who was shot to death by the SAPD’s gang unit on Jan 29, 2017, at 5:00 p.m. on 400 South Birch Street, in Santa Ana, has set up a GoFundMe page to raise money for his funeral.

A witness to the incident, as seen in the video above, said that Salgado ran from the police because he did not want to go back to jail as he would miss his daughter.

Other witnesses also reported that Salgado was shot in the back, up to three times, and that he was unarmed.

A vigil in Salgado’s memory will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 31, at 6 p.m., at 400 South Birch St.

Salgado and his girlfriend were expecting a second child, according to In League Press.

Salgado’s girlfriend is asking for donations to the GoFundMe account – “I am asking for help for funeral services for my boyfriend Steve. My boyfriend Steve was fatally shot by the Santa Ana police gang unit yesterday afternoon. He left behind a 2 year old baby girl and one on the way. He was loved by many. Any donation would be highly appreciated. He only had his daughter and myself. (Family wise) Thank you in advance.”
