Last week, police officers became aware of a possible car meet scheduled for April 26, 2024 at the Eastgate Shopping Center, according to the Garden Grove Police Department.

Due to past illegal activities that come from these events, the GGPD’s Neighborhood Traffic Unit (NTU) pro-actively responded to the location to monitor the activity.

Yesterday at 7:00 PM, police officers observed cars arriving in the hundreds, causing massive congestion and grid lock in the area.

Once the shopping center was full, the vehicles flooded the surrounding business lots and many residential neighborhoods, generating numerous calls for service.

NTU, with the assistance of patrol officers, began immediate enforcement; resulting in 127 citations (with close to 300 violations), 1 vehicle towed, and 15 vehicles referred to the State Referee Board for street legal compliance.

The GGPD will continue to monitor the area and conduct enforcement, as needed.
