An unidentified bicyclist in his 50s was critically injured on Monday night, July 3, when he was struck by a semi truck in Santa Ana, according to the O.C. Register.
Ricardo Martinez, a 44-year-old has been identified as the bicyclist who was killed at the 1400 block of West Warner Ave., just east of the South Pacific Avenue intersection, at about 5 a.m. on Saturday morning, by the driver of an SUV who sped away after the accident, according to the O.C. Register.
Martinez was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
Witnesses did not provide the police with a description of the SUV’s driver. However the SUV was reported to have traveled eastbound on Warner after the fatal crash. Continue reading
A 62-year old named Robert Horton was killed while riding a bicycle, in Santa Ana, near the on-ramp to northbound I-5, on Monday night, at around 5:25 pm, according to the O.C. Register.
Horton’s residence was not revealed by the Orange County Coroner’s office, which identified his remains. Continue reading
The SaCReD Community Day of Action, which was held this Saturday at Garfield Elementary School, was marred when a 16-year old on a bicyle was struck by a car, according to the OC Weekly.

The accident happened in Ward 2, which is represented by Councilwoman Michele Martinez, not far from the proposed Transit District.
Pedestrian accidents are common in Santa Ana. I saw one last year when I was walking in the downtown area. A woman who looked like a transient was struck by a pickup truck. It was as awful as it sounds.
