SAPD AB109 police officers assisted probation officers with a compliance check at the Grand Inn Motel, at 1519 E 1st St. (A one and a half star motel, per Yelp, that is actually not terribly grand).
The officers found narcotics, ammunition, and even a suspected grenade.
The Orange County Bomb Squad later confirmed it was a training grenade.
One man and one woman were arrested and booked at the Santa Ana Jail on narcotics and weapons charges.

Hard to believe, but back in the day, the nearby Saddleback Inn on First St, since burned to the ground by squatters and redeveloped into overpriced cheaply built apartments, was a very popular spot for honeymoons, celebrities, and politicians. How times have changed. First St. should be a case study is poor public policy.
