On Saturday, March 25 at about 4:30 p.m. SAPD police officers responded to 317 E. 17th Street after receiving a phone call regarding shots fired. A witness told the police officers that he approached a couple in the parking lot involved in an argument when the male threatened him with a gun. The couple left and later the male returned with a handgun and shot at the witness narrowly missing him but striking the building, according to SAPD Case # 17-08025.

This shooting happened near the 5 Freeway in in Santa Ana’s Ward 3, which is represented by Councilman Jose Solorio.

On Saturday, March 25 at about 11:30 p.m. SAPD police officers responded to a call of a male down in the area of 2300 West St. Gertrude. When emergency personnel arrived they located a 15-year old male juvenile unconscious and suffering from several gunshot wounds including one to the head. The shooting victim is in critical condition and his prognosis is unknown according to SAPD Case # 17-08054.

Based on the initial investigation, it appears the victim was walking in the area when he was shot. A dark colored vehicle was seen in the same area around the time of the incident. The incident appears to be gang-related.

This shooting happened south of Valley High School, just north of Adams Elementary School in Santa Ana’s Ward 6 which is represented by Councilman Sal Tinajero.

On Sunday, March 26 at about 2:00 a.m., a security guard was breaking up a fight at the Spoons Restaurant at 2601 S. Hotel Terrace when he heard a gunshot and fell to the ground. He suffered a gunshot wound to the leg according to SAPD Case # 17-0861.

The security guard was taken to an area hospital and is expected to survive, according to the O.C. Register.

The shooter took off, possibly in a silver Toyota Tundra.

This shooting happened in Santa Ana’s Ward 1 which is represented by Councilman Vince Sarmiento.

  1. The boy died , more than likely it wasn’t random, who ever killed him probably knew him either through school or because of jealousy over a girl friend , why would a gang bring that kind of heat on themselves , for an un armed boy, this was not random just a hunch but I could be wrong

    1. Gang members don’t care about bringing “heat” on themselves. Increase in gang shootings proves that.

  2. Lord Jesus we pray for the victims and their families. and also for the persons responsible, that they may come forward.
