On March 30, 2024, at approximately 9:53 p.m., the Santa Ana Police Department received multiple calls regarding a traffic collision in the area of Fairview Street and 5th Street.

SAPD Officers, along with Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA), responded to the scene and located a Chevrolet Tahoe and a Nissan Versa that collided head-on.

OCFA transported the female adult driver from the Nissan to UCI Medical Center where she succumbed to her injuries.

Based on the preliminary investigation, it was believed the Nissan was traveling westbound on 5th Street over the riverbed when it crossed over into opposite lanes of traffic and struck the Chevrolet head-on.

The Chevrolet was being driven by a female adult with her toddler who were not injured. The surviving parties remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation.

At this time, it is unknown if alcohol or drugs were a factor. The cause of the collision remains under investigation.

The Santa Ana Police Department’s Collision Investigations Unit (CIU) is investigating this incident. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Sergeant Richard Shin at (714) 245-8294 or the Santa Ana Police Department’s Traffic Division at (714) 245-8200.
