The police can now ticket CA drivers for parking too close to crosswalks

California’s new Daylighting Law (AB 413) took effect on January 1, 2025. The law prohibits stopping, standing, or parking a vehicle within 20 feet of a marked or unmarked crosswalk.

How does it work?

  • The law improves road safety by increasing visibility for pedestrians and bicyclists
  • It gives drivers more time to react and yield to pedestrians and cyclists
  • It helps drivers see if someone is waiting to cross from a distance

What does it apply to?

  • Within 15 feet of any crosswalk where there is a curb extension
  • Any marked or unmarked crosswalk

Local police departments in Orange County are aware of this new law and will be writing tickets.

This will be a huge pain in Santa Ana where street parking is already hard to come by…
