Orange County District Attorney Press Release
For Immediate Release, Case # 12CF2119: March 29, 2013
SANTA ANA – A boxing coach was convicted and sentenced today to two years in state prison and mandatory lifetime sex offender registration for sexually assaulting two 14-year-old boys, whom he met through a Santa Ana boxing club. Anthony Serrano, 45, Santa Ana, pleaded guilty to the court to four felony counts of lewd acts on a child. The defendant was facing a maximum sentence of five years in state prison.
At the time of the crimes, Serrano worked as a boxing coach at Santa Ana Boxing Club. Serrano met both of his victims through the boxing club.
Between May and October 2006, Serrano sexually assaulted John Doe #1 beginning when the victim was 14 years old. Serrano committed lewd acts against John Doe #1 on more than one occasion in Serrano’s home.
John Doe #1 reported the sexual assault in 2008, but the case was not filed at that time due to insufficient corroboration.
Between May 2011 and April 2012, Serrano sexually assaulted John Doe #2 beginning when the victim was 14-years-old. Serrano committed lewd acts against John Doe #2 on more than one occasion in Serrano’s home.
John Doe #2 reported the sexual abuse to the Santa Ana Police Department, who investigated this case, on July 15, 2012.
At the sentencing today, John Doe #2 delivered a victim impact statement before the court describing how the sexual abuse from the defendant has affected his life and talked about how he regularly attends therapy sessions because of the trauma caused by the sexual assault. John Doe #2’s mother also delivered a victim impact statement before the court describing how the defendant made up lies by accusing the victim of being a liar and making the sexual assaults up in order to cover up the abuse.
Serrano’s lifetime sex offender registration bars him from entering County recreational areas and City parks which have passed the Sex Offender Ordinance. Deputy District Attorney Keith Burke of the Sexual Assault Unit prosecuted this case.

Admin,
Isn’t this the same organization that Councilmember Benavides praised recently as ‘being a positive force in the community” despite the fact that six of Serrano’s co-conspirators and enablers still run the program.
I bet the odds of a young man saving his virginity are better with Roman Reyna and his YMCA pal’s!
What a bunch of hypocrites.

Isn’t this the same boxing club that Rosie Avila and Charles Hart run as board members? Still can’t figure out why they didn’t believe the parents of the boys who go buggered when they reported these crimes years ago. How many boys could have been spared this horrible violation?

Charles in Charge??? ha! I think Charles is more concerned about the Government taking over Santa Ana with “Agenda 21” then regulating sex crimes.
I like women that are not afraid to speak their minds.
