This Saturday, August 2nd, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM, Irvine City Hall will become the epicenter of a powerful grassroots uprising as 50501oc and the OC Indivisible Coalition host Rage Against the Regime, a punk rock protest rallying against authoritarianism, corporate overreach, and attacks on civil liberties.
Set against the backdrop of growing national unrest, this event is part of a nationwide day of action aimed at confronting what organizers describe as the “fascist regime” of former President Donald Trump. The rally will feature live performances by local punk bands including Jersey Bitters, alongside speeches from community leaders, sign-making stations, chanting, and a march through Irvine.
A Protest with Purpose
Beyond music and activism, the event will include a mutual aid drive, collecting food and household essentials for families impacted by immigration raids. Attendees will also have the opportunity to engage with local advocacy groups such as Sunrise Movement OC and CSO.OC, who will be on-site to offer actionable next steps for community involvement.
Amy Stevens, one of the event’s organizers, emphasized the urgency of the moment:
“Like the classic punks of OC, we’re calling out authoritarianism and corporatism. We will not comply in advance, and we’re providing tangible ways for all of us to disrupt the illegal and immoral actions of the Trump regime.”
Why Now?
The protest responds to a series of controversial actions attributed to the Trump administration, including:
- The weaponization of ICE
- The construction of detention centers likened to concentration camps
- The suppression of the Epstein Files
- Attacks on transgender rights
- The dismantling of key public institutions like Medicaid, SNAP, USAID, and NOAA
Since February 2025, 50501oc and OC Indivisible have organized over 30 rallies, drawing more than 35,000 attendees and collecting 8,000+ pounds of goods for local aid. Their efforts remain inclusive, nonviolent, and volunteer-led.
Both 50501oc and the OC Indivisible Coalition are grassroots, volunteer-led organizations that emphasize nonpartisan, community-driven activism. Here’s what we know about their funding and structure:
50501oc
- Described as a decentralized grassroots movement, 50501oc is part of the broader 50501 Movement, which stands for “50 protests, in 50 states, 1 unifying movement.”
- The group is bipartisan and focused on defending the Constitution from what it views as executive overreach.
- Events are organized by volunteers, and there is no indication of corporate or institutional funding.
- Their activities are community-supported, relying on mutual aid, donations of goods, and volunteer time rather than formal financial backing2.
OC Indivisible Coalition
- This coalition is a local chapter of the national Indivisible movement, which was inspired by the Indivisible Guide created to resist the Trump agenda.
- Like its parent organization, OC Indivisible operates on grassroots principles, with no affiliation to any political party.
- Their events are volunteer-organized, and they emphasize nonviolent, inclusive action.
In summary, both groups appear to be funded primarily through grassroots support, volunteer efforts, and community donations rather than institutional or corporate sponsorship.
A punk rock protest? The left is so desperate to be cool. Every event has a hipster edgy name that they think makes them sound authentic and real– but it honestly just sounds like it came from a marketing agency. It’s pathetic and cringy… like that one teacher or professor we all had who was old and out of touch but you could tell he derived his entire sense of self-worth by trying to seem hip and youthful to 19 year old students.
LOL. Nailed it!
