MainPlace Mall, a three-story super-regional shopping center in Santa Ana, California, will host a series of events in recognition of Día de los Muertos on Saturday, October 29th, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. as well as in-mall trick-or-treating at participating MainPlace Mall retailers on Monday, October 31st, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

The Saturday Día de los Muertos event will feature a number of cultural performances in Macy’s Court, including Mariachi los Santaneros, an eight-member performing arts group dressed in Día de los Muertos attire from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.; Folklor America, with 18 different dance routines performed by artists of all ages from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.; and Mantra, a beloved local Santanero band sharing popular Latin rock hits from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. In the JCPenney court (in front of the art gallery), there will be photo ops with murals painted at previous Día de los Muertos events as well as an art workshop held in front of The Children’s Place in the south court where children will learn how to create beautiful paper flowers (materials will be provided).

In Center Court, there will be a hand-painted mural photo op as well as eight professional face painters who will bring little catrinas and catrines to life with half-painted faces honoring those that have passed and left deep scars. And in front of the MyPerks Lounge, there will be a live painter showcasing amazing works of art, a caricaturist drawing spooky guest likenesses, and a sugar skull decorating station with handmade sugar skulls, assorted icing colors, mini flowers and rhinestones. The first 300 children to visit the welcome table in Macy’s Court will receive a swag bag filled with goodies and treats.
