Another anti-deportation protest will be taking place this morning at 10 a.m. at Sasscer Park, in Santa Ana, located at 600 W. Santa Ana Blvd.
This protest appears to be the brainchild of OC Supervisor Vicente Sarmiento’s son, Diego Sarmiento, who heads up Say Votes, an organization that tries to register youthful voters.
As the protest is set during the workday presumably it will be attended by people who either don’t work or are too young to work, as well as those who perhaps work on swing or night shifts or are retired.
Sasscer Park is named after deceased SAPD police officer Nelson K. Sasscer, was murdered while on patrol duty in Santa Ana on June 4, 1969, within a half hour of beginning his shift. He was shot before he could draw his own weapon. The subsequent investigation resulted In the prosecution and conviction of a professed member of the militant radical black panther party.
Members of the Sarmiento family have reportedly made a living running sleazy bars and dance halls and suing police departments.
