A DUI driver unleashed raging waters in Tustin when he crashed into a water control valve

A pickup truck driver failed to maintain control of his vehicle after exiting the I-5 freeway and the vehicle ended up colliding with a water control valve, according to the Tustin Police Department.

More than just water was flowing with the driver, however, as he was arrested for DUI.

It’s never a good idea to drive impaired. Plan ahead, use a designated driver, or hail a rideshare.

In California, driving under the influence (DUI) and causing property damage, such as crashing into a water valve, can lead to serious penalties. Here are some key points:

1. DUI Penalties: For a first DUI offense, you could face fines ranging from $390 to $1,000, jail time from two days to six months, and a six-month license suspension1. Additional penalties may apply for repeat offenses or if there are aggravating factors.
2. Property Damage: If you crash into property, like a water valve, you could be charged with a misdemeanor for hit-and-run if you leave the scene without providing your information23. Penalties for property damage include fines, potential jail time, and increased insurance rates4.

Combining both offenses can result in more severe consequences.
