The SAPD is asking for the community’s help regarding a hit-and-run collision that occurred on Camile Street.

The victim reported that while slowly driving and preparing to park, the suspect struck the front of his vehicle.

After the collision, the suspect failed to exchange insurance information, stating a family member would provide it at a later time.

The information was never provided, and the suspect fled the scene in a pickup truck. The SAPD’s Traffic division asks anyone who recognizes the individual, or has information regarding the incident to please contact Police Services Officer L. Flores at LFlores@santa-ana.org.

In California, a hit-and-run involving only property damage—such as the incident on Camile Street—is typically prosecuted as a misdemeanor under California Vehicle Code 20002

If convicted, the suspect may face the following penalties:

  • Incarceration: Up to six months in county jail.
  • Fines: A maximum fine of $1,000, plus additional court-imposed assessments.
  • Restitution: Mandatory payment to the victim to cover the full cost of repairs to the damaged vehicle.
  • Driving Record Points: Two points added to their California DMV record, which often results in significantly increased insurance premiums.
  • Probation: A period of informal probation, typically lasting up to three years.
  • Insurance Infraction: A separate fine of up to $250 for failing to exchange insurance information at the scene, as required by Vehicle Code 16025
