On Friday, July 21, 2017, at 3:38 AM, Santa Ana PD Officers responded to a family disturbance at a single-family residence at the 2400 block of Olive Street at around 3:47 a.m., according to the SAPD.

Initial reports indicated a resident at the location had been assaulted by a family member. Upon arrival, Officers encountered a Hispanic male in his early 20’s. An officer involved shooting occurred and the subject sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
Officers summoned Orange County Fire Authority Paramedics to the scene. The medics rendered aid and transported the subject to a local area trauma center. The male was declared deceased at 4:30 AM. No officers were injured during this incident. A knife was recovered at the scene of the shooting.

The Orange County District Attorney’s Office, in conjunction with the Santa Ana Police Department, is conducting an investigation into the matter. The identity of the decedent is pending until such time that the Orange County Coroner’s Office can conclude their preliminary investigation and notify next of kin. The investigation is ongoing.

This shooting happened a few blocks south of Memorial Park, in Santa Ana’s Ward 2, which is represented by Mayor Pro Tem Michele Martinez.
