A four-legged lifesaver sprang into action early this morning in Santa Ana.
A Santa Ana resident was awakened by their cat scratching at the door, moments before smelling smoke and hearing smoke alarms go off in the residence.
Crews were dispatched to the fire, at a house located at the 1400 block of S. Ross St., shortly before 5:00 a.m.
Firefighters responded to reports of people possibly still inside, quickly extinguished the fire, and ensured everyone had escaped.
A search confirmed that two adults and one child had made it out safely.
With the help of the alert feline, the residents and their cat are all safe.
A $250 SAVE (Supplying Aid to Victims of Emergency) Card was provided to the residents to assist with immediate needs.
The SAVE program is part of the California Fire Foundation and allows victims of home fires to purchase basic necessities such as food, clothing, gas, medicine, or a place to stay the night in the immediate aftermath of a house fire.
Another residential fire happened in Santa Ana this afternoon.
Residents smelled smoke & then saw a fast-moving blaze in their home on S. Linda Way at 4:41 p.m.
The family and their dog all escaped safely.
Firefighters knocked down the fire and assessed one person for possible smoke inhalation, who declined transportation.
