On Sunday, August 20, 2023, at approximately 5:07 A.M., the Santa Ana Police Department received multiple calls regarding a pedestrian down in traffic lanes at 900 West 1st Street.

Officers from the Santa Ana Police Department responded to the scene, where they located the pedestrian in the roadway. Orange County Fire Authority also responded to the scene. The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital, where medical staff declared the pedestrian deceased.

Based upon the preliminary investigation, it is believed that the pedestrian was crossing 1st Street when a vehicle traveling east on 1st Street struck him.

The vehicle involved in this collision remained at the scene, and the driver cooperated. Alcohol is not believed to have played a role in this collision. However, the cause of the collision remains under investigation.
