Driving under the influence is never a good idea. Being on Parole and choosing to drive under the influence while in possession of an unregistered loaded firearm is an even worse idea.

Add in a traffic collision as a result of intoxication and you’ve completed the hat trick of poor decision making – but this isn’t the Copa America and the only thing this suspect scored was additional felony charges, according to the Tustin Police Department.

Early Sunday morning, Tustin police officers and OC firefighters responded to a single-vehicle traffic collision. Officers arrived at the scene and located the driver who had moseyed his way away from the vehicle. Fortunately, at 1am, it does not take a detective to put this case together.

Officers quickly determined the driver was under the influence of alcohol and during a search of the vehicle, officers located a loaded unregistered 9mm handgun with a threaded barrel. We’ll ask the ref for a red card for that one.

The driver, who was on CDC Parole for Mayhem, was treated for injuries sustained in the collision and later booked at Orange County Jail for DUI, weapons violations, and a parole violation.
