Uptick in Violent Hate Crimes in 2013
OC Human Relations Releases the 2013 Hate Crime Report at 10am, Thursday, August 21st
The 2013 Orange County Hate Crime Report shows an increase in violent hate crimes, most notably simple and aggravated assaults. “We cannot stand for violence of any kind and violence motivated by hate is no exception. The Commission believes that a crime against one of us, is a crime against all of us, this report tells us that we must remain vigilant in our work to eliminate prejudice and discrimination in Orange County,” said Commission Chair Ken Inouye.
As a whole, hate crime in Orange County was down in 2013. As OC Human Relations prepares to release the 2013 Report on Hate Crimes, it is important to recognize that each of the hate crimes and incidents included in the report represents one of our neighbors who was targeted simply because of some aspect of their being – their ethnicity, religion, race, sexual orientation or ability.
Please join OC Human Relations at our annual Hate Crime Network meeting featuring a panel discussion at 10:00am on Thursday, August 21st as we examine the report and discuss the implications to our community.
Hate Crime Network Meeting location:
OC Human Relations
1300 S. Grand Ave., Bldg. B, Conf. Room A/B
Santa Ana, CA 92705 714-567-7470
The report will be posted to the OC Human Relations website, as are previous reports.
