  1. How could Martinez vote on this? It’s a conflict!
With all her gang connections her extended family stands to make millions of dollars off of this program.

  2. I don’t think you have much to worry about there. While this program may be successful in retrieving guns that have been sitting under mon’s bed for years gathering cobwebs, the city’s gangsters aren’t likely to give up their protection and source of continuing income for a gift certificate.

Gun buybacks are a great source of publicity for a violence-wracked city. They do little, however, to actually assuage crime and violence.

  3. In 1999 when my girls were young Stephanie Richter dropped off Kati with my daughter and asked a strange question:

“Do you have any guns in the house?”

I got the message loud and clear, guns have no place around curious children. I have since disposed of most of the weapons in my household.

In related news, the OC Register article comments section includes an interesting submission about Lomeli speaking on behalf of Councilmember Benavides regarding his marriage and his childrens residency.

The whole thing is weird. I can’t believe he would choose Art Lomeli to speak for him…..but, then again he thought he could be mayor!

Couple hundred guns off the street is a good thing!

  4. LOL… gun buys like this NEVER take guns “off the street”- they take them out of closets or from under beds. The vast majority of the guns taken in are relics and hand-me-downs that have been collecting dust since dad or uncle Walt passed, and the heir doesn’t know what to do with it.

In the rarest of cases, a gangbanger MAY use a city’s gun buy program to anonymously dispose of a dirty weapon. Since the police don’t run the ballistics for a match (and even if they did, it’d take months to get a return on a hit), the guns are simply melted into slag by the clueless lawmen. Thanks, cops, for getting rid of criminals’ dirty guns!
