Our Facebook readers contacted us last night about a shooting on West Myrtle Street. The shooting happened just south of the City Yard and Kidworks.

Now we know the sad details. Here is an update from the SAPD:

On Wednesday, April 1, 2020, at approximately 9:34 PM, SAPD Officers responded to a report of a shooting in the north alley at 2100 West Myrtle Street.

Officers arrived and located a crime scene. At approximately 9:40 PM, a group of people arrived at a local hospital with an adult woman, in a vehicle, suffering a gunshot wound.

Medical personnel exited the hospital to render aid. Doctors brought the woman into the hospital, where they attempted life-saving measures. The victim succumbed to her injuries and the attending physician declared her deceased at 9:46 PM.

The identity of the decedent is being withheld pending positive identification by the Orange County Coroner’s Division and notification of next of kin.

Santa Ana Homicide Section detectives responded and assumed the investigation, which is ongoing.

Investigators encourage anyone with information regarding this incident to come forward and provide a statement. This case is eligible for the Santa Ana Police Department Gang Homicide Reward.
