On Tuesday, a juvenile parked his E-bike outside a Woodbridge store without locking it. You can probably guess what happened next. An 18-year-old suspect rode off with the victim’s bike moments later, according to the Irvine Police Department.

A police officer responded to the area and took a grand theft report. Because the Irvine Police Department is a full-service department, he did not stop there. He reviewed surveillance footage and went on a search for the bike.

A short time later, the officer found the suspect riding the stolen E-bike in the area of East Yale Loop and the Creek Trail and arrested him.

The cost of the bike made the theft a felony, and the suspect was transported to Orange County Jail.

The best part of this story is that the police officer got the victim’s bike back!

Some reminders:

  1. Don’t commit crimes in Irvine!
  2. Lock your bike, even if it’s for a minute (still applies in Irvine).
  3. Our officers are invested in this community and will go the extra mile, as demonstrated above.
  4. Crime rarely pays in Irvine. Review the Irvine Police Department’s Facebook feed
