On Saturday night, a fight occurred after a soccer game ended at the Great Park, in Irvine.

The match was between Club Garrafones from South Los Angeles and the Irvine Zeta FC II. Both teams are part of the United Premier Soccer League, which is a professional development league.

The Irvine Police Department responded to the incident, assisted injured people, and began investigating.

Anyone with tips, photos, or videos is asked to call (949) 724-7104 or email rsteen@cityofirvine.org.

This case is under active investigation, and we will update the community when appropriate.

(Editor’s Note – 16-year-old Matthew Gonzales had his nose badly broken during the fight.  A parent was also kicked unconscious. The coach of the Irvine team said that he saw adults attacking teenagers. His team is young while the team they beat, the Club Garrafones, are mostly adults.)
