Recently, a resident’s e-bike was stolen from their garage, according to the Costa Mesa Police Department.
To make matters even worse, the theft suspect left his own broken down bike as a swap.
The family quickly notified the police and filed a report with a good description and a video.
The next day, Costa Mesa Community Policing officers, who were proactively on bike patrol, spotted the stolen e-bike and quickly arrested the suspect.
The police officers were glad to get the e-bike back to the family.
The Costa Mesa Police Department (CMPD) has partnered with Project 529 to give Costa Mesa residents a quick and easy way to register their bikes. Bike registration is no longer a requirement in the City of Costa Mesa, but the police department strongly encourages its residents to register their bikes through Project 529 to assist law enforcement in returning lost or stolen bicycles to the rightful owners.
