State Senator Tom Umberg partnered with Assemblyman Tyler Diep and a bipartisan coalition of eight legislators to lobby California Governor Gavin Newsom on behalf of the nail salon industry. Governor Newsom has since decided that nail salons, and other personal service businesses, will be able to reopen on June 19th.
The people of Orange County have been demanding that their voices be heard, and the response is most welcome. The reopening of the nail salon industry will help bring Californians back to work.
Thank you to Assemblymember Tyler Diep for spearheading these bipartisan efforts to safely reopen business in California. Guidelines will be available soon on the California Department of Public Health website.
These businesses will include: esthetician, skin care, and cosmetology services; electrology; nail salons; body art professionals, tattoo parlors, and piercing shops; and massage therapy.
Organizations that worked with Diep and Umberg on this issue included the Professional Nail Technicians Association Inc., Pro Nails Association, Orange Chamber of Commerce, Westminster Chamber of Commerce, Fountain Valley Chamber of Commerce, Vietnamese American Chamber of Commerce.
