On Wednesday morning, last week, a witness called the Irvine Police Department when they saw a man steal a bike from the University Center and ride off.

A police officer found the man riding the stolen bike in the area of UC Irvine.

He was stopped, arrested, and issued a citation for petty theft since the bike was worth less than $950.

The bike was registered, which helped the officers locate the owner quickly.

While the Irvine Police Department still offers a bike registration program, the SAPD no longer does. However you can register your bike at Bike IndexBike Index is a national database for bicycles and has a high return rate for stolen/recovered bicycles.
