A security guard contacted a man sleeping in a vehicle parked in a reserved parking space on Friday morning in the Campus Plaza parking lot, according to the Irvine Police Department.

When asked to leave, the man got out of his car and allegedly pushed and slapped the security guard’s arm.

The victim reported the suspect returned to his car and drove over a curb onto the sidewalk where the guard stood. He stopped just before hitting her with the vehicle.

In the afternoon, the Directed Enforcement Team (DET) determined that Richard Russell Reeder, 48, was the suspect.

DET officers developed a search plan, and after 90 minutes of searching, they found Reeder at the Westpark Plaza shopping center, where he was arrested.

Reeder was booked at Orange County Jail for assault with a deadly weapon and elder abuse.
