I-5 Central Corridor HOV Project construction activities are scheduled to continue this week within the City of Santa Ana. Work includes freeway closures for removal of temporary concrete safety barrier (“K-rail”), electrical work, and permanent lane striping.

Closures for permanent striping work is scheduled for Tuesday, August 25, 2020 from 10:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m. through Friday, August 28, 2020 for:

• Northbound I-5: Left Lanes between First/Fourth Streets and SR-22

Intermittent Closures for permanent striping work is also scheduled for Thursday, August 27, 2020 from 10:00 p.m. until 5:00 a.m. through Friday, August 28, 2020 for:

• Northbound and Southbound I-5: All Lanes between SR-55 and SR-57

Please use alternate routes during these times that avoid the I-5 between SR-55 and SR-22 and plan for potential delays since these closures can be expected to impact traffic flow. We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience as work to provide additional capacity for the I-5 Carpool lanes through Santa Ana is facilitated.

OCTA and Caltrans’ construction team has been expediting this work while traffic demand has been relatively lower due to COVID-19. Should you have any questions or issues with the construction please call (800) 724-0353 or e-mail central5fwy@octa.net.

When fully completed, this project will add an additional carpool lane (for a total of two lanes) in each direction on I-5 between SR-55 and SR-57 to reduce traffic congestion, bottlenecks, encourage ride-sharing and improve traffic flow. Construction is expected to be completed in early 2021. To sign up for construction alerts or for more information, visit: www.octa.net/i5Central.

Dates and times are subject to change if there is inclement weather or if there are unforeseen construction constraints.
