The City of Santa Ana has extended hours tonight, Aug. 19, for free sandbags. The City Corporate Yard will remain open until everyone who is waiting has been served as long as sandbag supplies last.
Orange County Fire Authority also has free sand available but recommends that the public take their own bags.Sand/sandbag locations:
- City of Santa Ana Corporate Yard, 215 S. Center St., Santa Ana (normal hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day)
- OCFA Fire Station 79, 1320 E. Warner Ave., Santa Ana
A security guard at the City Yard informed us yesterday that they will stay open as late as 10 p.m. to provide the sandbags. Be sure to bring your driver’s license to show to the security guard.
If you go to the OCFA fire station please be sure not to block their entrance.
The National Weather Service has issued a tropical storm warning for Santa Ana and much of Southern California. High winds and rain are expected, and a flood watch is in effect from late Saturday night through Monday evening. It’s recommended to secure or remove loose items outside of homes, remove loose tree branches, clear storm gutters, and do shopping before the storm.
Stay home if possible during heavy rain or flooding and avoid driving through flooded streets.
