Santa Ana City Councilwoman Michele Martinez is hosting a kickoff to her campaign for the First Supervisorial District on July 28, 2016, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Chapter One: The Modern Local, located at 227 N. Broadway, in Downtown Santa Ana.

Campaign contribution amounts range from $125 to 1,900. RSVP to michelemartinezfundraiser@gmail.com.

Martinez edged out the incumbent, First District Supervisor Andrew Do, in the June Primary Election, when Do’s fellow Garden Grove Republican, Phat Bui, split the Republican vote. Bui is out now as Martinez and Do square off in the upcoming November General Election.

Do has been under investigation by the FPCC for questionable campaign financing. He was previously Chief of Staff to his predecessor, former Supervisor Janet Nguyen. They have since had a falling out.

Democrats outnumber Republicans in the First District but Latino voters have often failed to show up to the polls. This time however could be different as Latino voters are expected to turn out in large numbers in order to vote against Do’s fellow Republican, Donald Trump.

Martinez has been supporting the Democratic Presidential nominee Hillary Clinton for some time.
