On Monday, July 14th, 2025, at 1:53 p.m., police officers were dispatched to the 13100 Block of Yockey St., in Garden Grove, regarding a suspected shooting that just occurred, according to the Garden Grove Police Department.

The officers arrived and learned that the shooting had taken place inside a residence with two victims still inside.

The officers made entry into the residence and located two males suffering from gunshot wounds. One male was determined to be deceased and the other was rescued by officers and removed from the residence.

Officers provided life saving measures until paramedics from the Orange County Fire Authority took over. This victim was transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition.

Through the investigation, it was learned there were three parties involved in the altercation who were all family members.

The suspect, Omar Molina, heard the two family members in an altercation and heard gunshots. Molina then armed himself and went to see what was happening. He then ultimately fired his weapon which caused the death of the family member who officers found deceased inside the residence.

There is no danger to the public as the incident was isolated amongst family members.

The exact nature of how things transpired, what caused the deadly altercation and the weapons used are still under investigation. Garden Grove PD Detectives are actively working this case and would like anyone with additional information to contact Detective Heine at 714-741-5422.

Omar Molina, 32, was arrested in connection with a deadly shooting involving family members in Garden Grove on July 14, 2025. Based on the details released so far, here are the possible legal consequences he could face:

  • Murder: If prosecutors determine the shooting was intentional and unjustified, Molina could be charged with murder. In California, first-degree murder carries a sentence of 25 years to life in prison. If there are special circumstances, such as multiple victims, the penalty could be life without parole or even the death penalty.
  • Attempted Murder: For the surviving victim who was critically injured, Molina could face attempted murder charges, which can also carry a life sentence with the possibility of parole.
  • Voluntary Manslaughter: If the shooting is found to have occurred in the heat of passion or under imperfect self-defense, the charge could be reduced to voluntary manslaughter, which carries a sentence of 3, 6, or 11 years in prison.
  • Assault with a Firearm: If Molina used a firearm in a way that endangered others, even if not all injuries were directly caused by him, he could face additional charges related to assault with a deadly weapon.

The exact charges will depend on the outcome of the ongoing investigation. The Garden Grove Police Department has stated that more information will be released as the case develops.
