A guy in Costa Mesa found himself in hot water last night and as is often the case it started with a bad decision regarding an ex-girlfriend. You know when your gal is calling you an “ex” it is time to adios but 25-year old Marcos Antonio Vargas, of Costa Mesa, apparently didn’t get that message. And it did not end well.

Vargas refused to leave his ex-girlfriend’s apartment, at the 2300 block of Fairview, in Costa Mesa. So the ex-girlfriend finally called 911, shortly after 8:30 p.m.

The Costa Mesa police showed up and found Vargas in the kitchen of the ex-girlfriend’s first-level apartment. At this point he could have done the reasonable thing and apologized to all concerned – and left. But no that is not what Vargas did. Instead he tried to gouge out the officer’s eyes with his fingers and hands, according to the O.C. Register.

As you might imagine the policeman was not alone. His partner ended up Tasering Vargas.

The officer who was attacked has been part of the Costa Mesa Police Department for two years. He suffered scrapes and scratches on his face and around his right eye – but he manned up and did not request medical attention. In fact he finished his overnight shift and was expected back at work today.

As for Vargas, he was arrested on suspicion of felony attempted mayhem and assault and battery of a police officer and misdemeanor resisting arrest and trespassing. For now he is being held at the Orange County Jail. By now the other folks at the Jail know he tried to gouge out a police officer’s eyes. I expect they will be giving Vargas a wide berth.

Vargas will most likely obtain help from a Public Defender and cop a plea. He is likely looking at jail time and as the charges look like felonies this mistake will cling to him for a while. He should have just gone on Tinder and found a new girlfriend. Too late now!

  1. Poor officer. I hope Trump is able to give police their power back. So they can actually enforce the law like they use to. Criminals have no consequences in California. That is why crime prevails here. There’s no real law. No fear of consequences because there’s none. Everything is a misdemeanor.
