Senator Praises Organization for Dedicated Service to Improving Lives and Keeping Communities Safe

Santa Ana, CA–Senator Lou Correa (D-Santa Ana) received the Legislator of the Year Award from the California Police Chiefs Association (CPCA), an organization whose members work tirelessly to improve public safety.

“Police officers put their lives on the line every day to keep our communities safe,” said Senator Correa. “I have a deep respect for these dedicated men and women and I am honored to receive this award,” he added. “As a state legislator, I have the privilege of working closely with the Police Chiefs, most recently on legislation to reduce driving growing problem of driving while under the influence of drugs.”

The CPCA is a statewide organization formed in 1966 that represents municipal law enforcement agencies in California. Municipal police chiefs are responsible for leading 330 police departments statewide and for providing law enforcement services to nearly 29 million residents. CPCA’s mission is to promote and advance police administration and crime prevention throughout California.“

Senator Correa authored SB 289, a critical piece of legislation that seeks to address one of the escalating crimes in our state, drugged driving,” stated Garden Grove Police Chief Kevin Raney. “Getting legislation like this introduced and advocating for our police officers is critical for the safety of our communities and we appreciate Senator Correa’s leadership.”
