California’s new Daylighting Law (AB 413) took effect on January 1, 2025. The law prohibits stopping, standing, or parking a vehicle within 20 feet of a marked or unmarked crosswalk.
How does it work?
- The law improves road safety by increasing visibility for pedestrians and bicyclists
- It gives drivers more time to react and yield to pedestrians and cyclists
- It helps drivers see if someone is waiting to cross from a distance
What does it apply to?
- Within 15 feet of any crosswalk where there is a curb extension
- Any marked or unmarked crosswalk
Local police departments in Orange County are aware of this new law and will be writing tickets.
This will be a huge pain in Santa Ana where street parking is already hard to come by…
Great. Lets make parking even worse. If the state actually cared about pedestrian safety, they wouldn’t have legalized jaywalking and wouldn’t allow 6000lb Tesla Cybertrucks to go 0-60 in 2 seconds. Glad the state assembly is really focusing on what matters.
Exactly…
22% of downtown Santa Ana is dedicated solely to car parking.
Lazy people will now lose 3 minutes out of their day walking from a less convenient parking spot to their destination
Even worse on streets where parking permits are required and there are 2-3 cars parked throughout the whole street. Like, what????
That settles it, me and my six cars are moving to a Sunbelt state with plenty of parking and poor infrastructure!
