Police officers were recently conducting proactive enforcement in the area of 4500 W. 1st St. due to a recent uptick in gang activity, according to the SAPD.
When they attempted to contact a documented gang member who was known to be on probation a foot pursuit ensued.
As is usually the case the officers quickly caught up to the suspect and arrested him.
The officers also recovered a “ghost gun” that was in the suspect’s possession.
The suspect was arrested and booked at the Santa Ana City Jail for weapons charges and a probation violation.
In California, a suspect arrested on weapons charges and a probation violation faces serious penalties. Here’s a breakdown:
Weapons Charges
- Misdemeanor Charges: These can result in up to one year in jail and fines up to $1,000.
- Felony Charges: More severe offenses can lead to prison sentences ranging from one year to 20 years, depending on the specifics of the case.
Probation Violation
- Probation Violation Hearing: The suspect will face a hearing where a judge will determine the outcome.
- Revocation of Probation: The judge may revoke probation and impose the original suspended sentence.
- Modification of Probation: The judge might modify the terms of probation, which could include increased supervision or additional community service.
- Imprisonment: The judge may impose jail time, either in county jail or state prison.
