The SAPD arrested a suspect on narcotics and firearm charges after a traffic stop and a search of his home

Last week patrol officers conducted a traffic stop in the area of Westminster and Harbor Blvd., according to the SAPD.

As a result, an officer obtained intelligence regarding narcotics sales and firearm possession and subsequently authored a search warrant.

On March 6th, detectives and officers executed the search warrant at a residence located at the 3600 block of W. 17th.

During the search, a large quantity of narcotics, U.S. currency and a loaded firearm were recovered.

An adult male was arrested and booked at the Santa Ana City Jail on multiple firearm and narcotics violations.

In California, being arrested for multiple firearm and narcotics violations can lead to severe penalties:

  1. Firearm Violations:
    • Felon in Possession of a Firearm: Under Penal Code Section 29800, this is a felony punishable by 16 months, 2 years, or 3 years in prison.
    • Narcotics Addicts with Firearms: Similar penalties apply to narcotics addicts found in possession of firearms.
  2. Narcotics Violations:
    • Possession for Sale: Depending on the type and quantity of narcotics, this can result in several years in state prison.
    • Possession of Controlled Substances: Simple possession can lead to jail time, fines, and mandatory drug treatment programs.
  3. Combined Violations:
    • Enhanced Sentencing: Multiple violations can lead to enhanced sentencing, meaning longer prison terms and higher fines. Repeat offenders face even harsher penalties.
