Santa Ana – A family woke up to the sound of glass breaking when an exterior fire rapidly spread into their home on W. Kent Ave., in Santa Ana, and was threatening a house behind it.

Dispatchers received multiple 911 calls from neighbors of smoke and fire showing from the rear of a single story house shortly before midnight last night.

Engine 78 was the first-arriving crew and reported heavy fire showing. Based on conditions and a report that one of the residents may still be inside, additional engine companies were ordered.

The firefighters made an aggressive attack and conducted a search of the home, and confirmed everyone was out.

With a coordinated attack, crews were able to prevent the blaze from spreading into the home to the rear.

Damage to the structure is estimated at $200K and $100K to contents. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

The Red Cross was requested to assist five adults who were displaced.

Assistance was provided by the Fountain Valley Fire Department.
