While most of us were wrapping up our Easter Sunday, someone was shooting a 41-year-old man, fatally, at the Santa Ana riverbed, just east of Edna Park, at around 9:36 p.m., according to the O.C. Register.

The shooting occurred at the 2100 block of Edna Drive. SAPD police officers who responded found the victim with gunshot wounds in his upper torso. He was pronounced dead at the scene by OCFA paramedics.

The SAPD’s investigation indicates that the victim was on the bike trail of the riverbed when he came across two males, and they got into a fight. The police reported that the two men show the victim.

The police do not know at this time if the shooting was gang-related.

There is no description of the suspects available. They were last seen fleeting the area on foot in some unknown direction.

The SAPD had no information on the victim or his relationship to the witness or suspects, as of last night.

Last week, on Thursday night, two Santa Ana men were killed in unrelated gang attacks. These past two months have been the most active with regard to shootings over the past five years – or since the City Council majority took over, fired former Police Chief Paul Walters and hired the new City Manager, David Cavazos.

This shooting happened in Santa Ana’s Ward 3, which is represented by Council Member Angie Amezcua.

The SAPD is requesting that anyone with information on this case call their homicide detectives at 714-245-8390 or Orange County Crime Stoppers at 1-855-TIP-OCCS.
